After an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile on February 27, assessment teams from Convoy of Hope were quickly dispatched to the South American country to distribute food, water purification units and other emergency supplies.

“In addition to the primary focus of assessment, 3,700 pounds of emergency food and supplies have been distributed along with several Sawyer Water filters in some of the hardest-hit areas,” says Kary Kingsland, vice president of disaster response for Convoy of Hope. “As with all major disasters the needs will be ongoing. Our team is developing a plan to help meet short and long-term needs.”

Many towns and villages along the coast were severely impacted by the earthquake and the tsunami that followed. Convoy of Hope teams are currently assessing the needs of those communities.
